Pocketwizards.......
I recently bought a set of the new Pocketwizards (TT1,TT5 and AC3 controller) for my Nikon D700 with an eye towards developing more dramatic off-camera flash results. For Nicole and Billy's wedding recently, we thought it might be a good idea to use a recently harvested field opposite the reception venue. I set up a SB900 flashgun on a lightstand with an Ezybox speedlite softbox to soften the light and took a series of exposures. By underexposing the ambient light by 2 stops I was able to get a more dramatic sky than was apparant whilst the flash- being set to TTL - sorted out the correct exposure for the couple. It's great to be able to tweak the exposure of the flash by using the AC3 controller on the camera - it adjusts +/- 3 stops so is pretty flexible. I could do with another TT5 to enable a dual flash setup - rim lighting for example. They seem to have come down in price a bit so might look to get another soon....Here's an example from the shoot - any comments appreciated:
